Wilde - A
By Kage Alan

Stephen Fry plays Oscar Wilde, a socially unusual writer who loves his wife and children very much. They are his center for a very long time and probably what stops him from exploring his nature until being seduced by Robbie Ross (Michael Sheen), a young man with future prestige helping out around the house. A duplicity then begins to exist as Wilde finds he's in love with his wife, yet he is sexually attracted to men and, since it is within his means, begins to live two lives. Unfortunately, Wilde is introduced to Lord Alfred Douglas (Jude Law), or Bosie as he's called, and falls head over heals in love with the young college student. Bosie is also quite taken with Wilde, but has a number of issues stemming from an extremely unhappy home life and extraordinarily cruel father. It's these issues that fuel an internal rage that Bosie is incapable of controlling at times and lead to a number of confrontations with Wilde, yet they keep ending up back together. Almost everybody but Wilde sees that the relationship will ultimately be destructive, but nobody can convince him of it and they do try. The Marquess of Queensberry (Tom Wilkinson), Bosie's father, takes a dislike to Wilde and believes many of the rumors and whispers about the popular author buggering his son. The clashing between father and son spins out of control and Wilde finds himself in the middle of it all. He (Wilde) has such a blind love for the boy and desire to help, though, that he ends up being put on trial and sentenced to two years of hard labor for being a homosexual. A very witty, yet ultimately sad movie that shouldn't be missed. Stephen Fry is extraordinary in the role.
