All Over The Guy - B+ For all the critical bashing this film has gotten, "All Over The Guy" is everything TVs "Will & Grace" should have been, but isn't. It's a comedy about two sets of friends, Eli & Brett and Tom & Jackie, and how they interact. Eli and Tom are gay while Brett and Jackie aren't. Trouble in relationship paradise? You bet. Eli is too uptight and Tom drinks too much, smokes and hasn't seen "Gone With The Wind" because he's not into black & white movies. It's a match made in hell, which is exactly why they start to fall in love! Instead of going for stereotypical gay camp humor, writer Dan Bucatinsky has given the characters flaws, traumatic pasts a sad present and plenty of opportunity to show how humorous life can really be despite these setbacks. The dynamics change a bit when Brett and Jackie get engaged and Eli and Tom can't seem to stop picking at each other long enough to realize that they're just as right for each other. There's great chemistry between these actors and it really shows. Doris Roberts, Christina Ricci and Lisa Kudrow have supporting roles. |
