Iron Monkey 2 (DVD Review) D Just when you thought it was safe to believe in sequels again. As films go, it’s okay. As sequels go based on the strength of the original, this is Iron Crap. As far as timelines go, this would appear to take place some 40 or 50 years after the original and has less to do with the character of Iron Monkey than implants now do with Pamela Anderson Lee. The name is dropped a few times, only that’s about all of the involvement it has. Apparently there’s some arms smuggler buying or selling guns or some nonsense like that and a couple of con artists get in the middle of it all after befriending a young martial artist who defends them because he doesn’t know any better. The young man is mistaken as Iron Monkey, but he’s really only looking for his father. Tempers flare when the bad guys don’t like being shown up by someone thought to be Iron Monkey and several fights ensue. The fight scenes are okay, but not nearly as elaborate or energetic as they were in the previous film or what I’m used to seeing in a Hong Kong action movie. “Iron Monkey 2” is simply a disappointment in almost every way possible. It doesn’t live up to any expectations set in the original and doesn’t stand on its own as a very good film either. Avoid. This just isn’t worth your time or money. |
