Mad Mission II (Aces Go Places II)  B+
By Kage Alan

It seems the American mob is extremely unhappy with master thief King Kong for taking out White Glove and making off with some stolen diamonds, all events that took place in the first film. They are also equally unhappy with American/Chinese detective Albert Au for helping out, so they decide to send somebody over to eliminate them. Who do they choose? A rough and tough cowboy type named Filthy Harry, a basic amalgam of Clint Eastwood’s most famous characters.

Meanwhile, back in Hong Kong, King Kong is framed for a bank robbery by a gorgeous woman working for the Bozo gang and Albert finds himself getting married to Nancy Ho, the Police Superintendent. The local mob hears about Filthy Harry coming to town and wants to protect the two men, but only for a cut of the diamonds. What ensues are a number of daring chase sequences, fights, killer robots (Transformers no less!), explosions, motorcycle stunts and hi-tech gadgets.

Director Eric Tsang keeps the action, gizmos and comedy coming by the boatloads here, so much so that the overall plot takes a major backseat to the hijinks. Believe me, viewers won’t even notice because just as you start to wonder what the hell just happened and where the film is going, it completely distracts you with more eye-candy. The cast once again demonstrates a great deal of chemistry and looks like they had a ball making this. It’s great entertainment with just enough action to keep adults interested and fun to keep younger viewers occupied.
